Capital Challenge
Strengthen the decision before committing capital.
A compelling strategic rationale does not settle the financial case. CSP independently challenges the assumptions, funding capacity and downside behind a major investment, acquisition or transformation.
Discuss a Capital DecisionSenior financial judgment while leadership can still change the decision.

The moment to bring CSP in
Before the commitment becomes difficult to change.
An approval is approaching.
Leadership wants a perspective independent of the team that built the case.
The assumptions have moved.
Costs, demand, timing or financing have changed since the original recommendation.
Priorities compete for capital.
Several projects depend on the same funding, management capacity or expected benefits.
A forecast return can look attractive while liquidity, delivery risk or financial flexibility tell a different story.
Four questions behind the decision
What must hold true for the investment to work?
Are the returns supported?
Which revenue, margin, demand, utilisation, cost or timing assumptions carry the case? Are the benefits distinct, measurable and supported by the operating plan?
Can the downside be funded?
Can cash, borrowing capacity and the financing plan absorb the commitment alongside existing obligations? What happens if costs rise, delivery slips or demand falls short?
What could prevent value from emerging?
Test the operational, technical and organisational dependencies. Establish who owns the benefits and what evidence will show whether the investment is delivering them.
What should be approved, phased or conditional?
Identify unresolved information, approval conditions and the changes that should bring the case back to management, the Board or Investment Committee.
A decision leadership can examine
From a compelling case to a considered commitment.
The work connects the economics, funding and execution risks to the decision in front of leadership.
Scope is agreed around the question, the evidence available, the timetable and the outputs that will be useful.

Working alongside your team
Independent perspective. Clear responsibilities.
CSP can be engaged by management, a Board, an investor or alongside existing advisers. Management retains responsibility for its recommendation and the decision.
This engagement does not provide M&A execution or financial due diligence. Legal, tax, audit and technical specialists retain their respective roles. Where a transaction proceeds, CSP may support integration, KPIs, governance and performance monitoring to help protect the value paid for.
